Functional Neurological Disorder

I regularly work with  patients with Functionality Neurological Disorder (FND)and Functional Motor disorders to help them and their families understand their condition and develop strategies to better cope with their situation.

We know FND is a medical condition where there is a problem with the brain’s “software” that impacts how the nervous system and body sends or receives signals.  In some patients FND can present as chronic pain, fatigue, movement or speech disorders, sleep problems, anxiety or depression.

Psychology has a role to play in helping patients to identify and manage their symptoms, learn how to regain control, increase confidence and develop strategies for managing their pain and improving their quality of life.

I welcome you make an appointment with me to further discuss your condition and how I can help. You will find my approach to be kind and practical. I will work closely with your Neurologist and we will make a plan to help you better cope and move forward alongside the challenges of your FND.

Chronic & Persistent Pain

Chronic pain is common  with about three in ten people experiencing this problem. Chronic pain involves changes in the body, and changes in brain chemistry and connections; in how we think and feel about our pain.

Chronic pain hurts in more ways than just the sensation of pain. Physical limitations can bring on frustration, feelings of worthlessness and helplessness and depression. It also affects your ability to think clearly and to focus your attention. This ‘extra baggage. on top of the pain itself increases suffering.

Psychology can help you to understand your pain, and to help you to learn skills and strategies to better manage your symptoms and improve your Quality of Life.

I welcome you make an appointment with me to further discuss your condition and how I can help. You will find my approach to be kind and practical. I will work closely with your GP, Pain specialist and physiotherapist  to give you the strategies to manage you pain in a healthier way.
